Active Aging (50+) Fitness Programs

Scheduled Programs and Classes Include:
Restorative Yoga (Ages 50+)
This class is designed with gentle floor based sequences using bolsters, blankets, and props that support the practitioner to fully relax the muscles, slow down the mental activity of the brain, shift emotional patterns, bring ease to the breath, and tune into the nervous system's healing capacity. This 50 minute class is perfect for any level student.
Chair Yoga (Ages 50+)
Gain confidence in your balance, mobility, and posture, all while sitting comfortably in a chair. This class is great for beginners or people with limited flexibility.
Stretch & Flex (Ages 50+)
Learn how to correctly activate and control stabilizing muscles, enhance independent living skills, and improve mobility. This class includes seated and standing exercises, stretching, and toning with small weights.
Tai Chi (Ages 50+)
This outdoor class involves a series of slow, rhythmic movements, aimed to promote relaxation and reduce stress. The exercises done in class are low-impact and help you gain flexibility, balance, and strength.
IB Walking (Ages 50+)
The Imperial Beach Walking Club is a new and popular fitness program for older adults. The program has been developed by researchers at UC San Diego and is delivered in partnership with Imperial Beach Senior Community Center and Wisdom Walkers, Inc.
Adults 50 and over are encouraged to participate in an evidence-based program developed by UC San Diego shown to increase physical activity and improve quality of life in San Diego older adults.

Participants Requirements
- A 1-year commitment to make meaningful changes to your health
- Attend 2 group meetings or walks each week

Southwestern College: Body Dynamics (Ages 18+)
Southwestern College non-credit course. Provides instruction and conditioning for the maintenance of physical well-being, particularly for older adults. Focuses on deep breathing, circulation, flexibility, stamina, body awareness, and rhythmic movements. Incorporates adapted techniques suitable for individuals of varied fitness levels and physical ability.
Senior Community Center staff can assist with registration questions and paperwork for classes.
