Intergenerational Community Garden
About the Intergenerational Community Garden
The City of Imperial Beach is thrilled to announce that the Intergenerational Community Garden is now open for viewing, Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
Through a partnership with San Diego County Aging and Independence Services and the Live Well initiative, the community garden focuses on bringing together diverse intergenerational audiences through hands-on gardening programs, seasonal activities, and educational offerings.
The garden site is located near St. James Plaza and features raised bed planters for seasonal planting and harvesting of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and other plants.
The Community Garden can be accessed through the east side of Veterans Park (1075 8th Street, Imperial Beach) or through St. James Lutheran Church parking lot on 9th Street.
This intergenerational garden project is made by possible through funding and partnership from the County of San Diego, AARP, The Home Depot Foundation, SDG&E, San Diego County Master Gardener Association, and San Diego Children & Nature.
Adopt-A-Bed-Program
The Adopt-A-Bed Program, our newest opportunity for garden volunteers, provides space for the volunteers to work together to bring new growth to the garden. Garden beds are shared amongst volunteers to grow various foods and herbs and are available to adopt for a 6-month term. Garden beds are adopted at random by lottery system every new term. Garden volunteers must be ages 18+.
Term 1: January through June
Term 2: July through December
